About lihaa.fi

What is lihaa.fi?

lihaa.fi is a booking service through which Finnish hunting clubs sell the meat of the moose, deer and roe deer they have hunted directly to consumers. Each club has its own online shop in the service, showing the cuts for sale, their weights and prices, the pickup location and pickup times.

The service brings the clubs’ shops together in one place, so you no longer need word of mouth, Facebook groups or a friend in the club to find game meat. On the front page you can search for the nearest clubs by town name, postcode or map.

Who runs lihaa.fi?

lihaa.fi is run by Kasaan Oy (business ID 3328439-6), based in Ylivieska, Finland. The contact person is Antti Katajala, tel. +358 44 493 2345, antti.katajala@kasaan.fi. The server is located in Finland.

Does lihaa.fi sell meat itself?

No. lihaa.fi is a booking tool, not a middleman. The sale is always made directly with the hunting club whose shop you reserve from. The meat and the payment go between the club and the buyer; lihaa.fi does not buy, store, transport or inspect meat and does not handle payments.

The selling club is responsible for its products, their details and prices, the pickup and receiving payment. The club’s name and contact details are shown in its shop and in the booking confirmation.

Where in Finland does lihaa.fi operate?

lihaa.fi covers the whole of Finland. The number of clubs varies by region, because every club joins the service itself. Towns with clubs nearby are listed on the front page under Riistanlihaa paikkakunnittain (game meat by town), and each of them has its own page showing the nearest clubs and the products they have for sale.

If there is no club near you yet, tell your local hunting club about the service.

Is lihaa.fi available in English?

Yes. The front page, the town pages and every club’s shop are available in English, and also in Swedish. Reserving, finding your booking and the payment instructions are all in English. What the club writes itself, such as the pickup location and times, is usually in Finnish. The terms of use, the sign-up for clubs and the clubs’ admin view are in Finnish. For questions about the meat, contact the club directly using the details in its shop.

Buying game meat

Where can I buy moose or deer meat in Finland?

You can buy moose and deer meat directly from Finnish hunting clubs through lihaa.fi. Search for the nearest clubs on the front page, choose a club that has meat for sale and reserve the cuts you want. Other places to buy game meat are meat counters in shops and market halls and local REKO food rings, but meat bought directly from a club comes from the local forests and has been handled by the club itself.

How do I buy game meat through lihaa.fi?

Buying game meat through lihaa.fi takes four steps:

  1. Find the nearest clubs on the front page by town name, postcode or map.
  2. Reserve the meat in the club’s shop: choose roasts, fillets or mince and confirm with your name and phone number. You receive a booking code.
  3. Collect the meat from the club’s pickup point at the agreed time. Your booking is found with the booking code.
  4. Pay the club directly, usually with MobilePay on collection.

No account or registration is needed, and reserving costs nothing.

Do I need to be a hunter or a club member to buy game meat?

No. Anyone can reserve and buy game meat on lihaa.fi. You do not need a club membership, a hunting licence or a user account; your name and phone number are enough for a booking.

How do I find the nearest hunting club that sells game meat?

Type your town or postcode into the search on the lihaa.fi front page, or browse the clubs on the map. The search lists clubs by distance and shows whether each club has meat for sale right now.

The search runs on your device and the search term is not sent to the server. Towns with clubs nearby also have their own page at lihaa.fi/paikkakunta/town-name/.

What kind of game meat do the clubs sell?

Clubs sell meat from the moose, white-tailed deer, roe deer and other deer they have hunted. The meat is usually sold ready cut and packed, often vacuum-packed and frozen.

Typical products
GroupExamples
FilletsTenderloin, striploin
RoastsTopside, silverside, rump, fore rib, shoulder, neck
Diced and shavedDiced meat, shaved meat for sautéing
MinceGame mince, only from clubs whose premises the municipal food control has assessed as suitable
Bones and otherShank, flank, soup bones

Deer and roe deer cuts are smaller than moose cuts. Each club’s selection is shown in its shop.

How much does game meat cost in Finland?

The selling hunting club always sets the price, so prices vary by club and region. The starting prices in the lihaa.fi price list range from €4 to €75 per kg depending on the cut: for example mince €20/kg and moose tenderloin €75/kg. Clubs can change them to their own prices.

Starting prices in the lihaa.fi price list (the club sets the final price)
CutStarting price

Fore rib (Etuselkä)€35/kg

Flank (Kylki)€12/kg
Soup bones (Liemiluut)€4/kg

The price shown in the shop is the total price of the pack, calculated from its weight and the club’s price per kg. A club’s price is often lower than at a shop’s meat counter, because there is no processing or retail margin in between.

Does using lihaa.fi cost the buyer anything?

No. Reserving is free for buyers, and the service charges buyers no fees. You only pay the price of the meat directly to the club.

How do I pay for the meat?

You pay the selling club directly in the way it specifies, usually with MobilePay when you collect the meat. The club’s MobilePay number and payment instructions are shown in its shop and in the booking confirmation. lihaa.fi does not receive or forward payments.

How and where is the meat collected? Is home delivery available?

The meat is collected from the club. The club states the pickup location, such as its hunting lodge or slaughter shed, and the pickup times in its shop. lihaa.fi does not transport meat.

Every pack is numbered, so the club can easily find your packs at the pickup point. Bring a cool bag or another way to keep the meat cold on the way home.

Can I cancel a booking?

Yes. You can cancel a booking free of charge before collection in the Omat varaukset (My bookings) section of the shop or by contacting the club. The sale is made only when you collect the products.

If you do not collect the products at the agreed time and do not let the club know, the club may cancel the booking and sell the products to others. Because meat is perishable, there is no 14-day right of withdrawal after collection.

What details does a booking need, and who sees them?

A booking needs your name and phone number. An email address is optional; if you give one, you receive the booking confirmation by email.

Only the club you reserve from sees your details; other buyers do not. The club is the data controller for buyers’ personal data, and lihaa.fi processes it on the club’s behalf as a technical service provider. See the privacy policy (in Finnish).

When is game meat for sale?

Most game meat is for sale in autumn and early winter, during the clubs’ hunting season, when new meat comes up for sale. Frozen meat may be available at other times too. The front page and the town pages show which clubs have meat for sale right now.

How should game meat be stored?

Store the meat according to the instructions on the pack. Every pack shows a use-by period and storage instructions with temperatures.

Storing game meat
MeatStorage temperatureKeeps
Fresh meat+6 °C or colderas stated on the pack
Frozen meat−18 °C or colderup to 12 months recommended

The pack also says whether the meat has been frozen and gives the freezing date.

What information is on a pack of game meat?

Every pack for sale must show:

  • the species
  • the product name and weight
  • the use-by period
  • storage instructions with temperatures
  • where applicable, that the meat has been frozen and the freezing date
  • the seller’s contact details

lihaa.fi’s pack labels include all of these, plus a pack number.

What if there is something wrong with the meat?

Tell the club that sold it without delay, preferably when you collect it. The club is responsible for defects under the Finnish Consumer Protection Act. lihaa.fi can help pass your message to the club but does not settle disputes about the sale.

If you suspect the meat has made you ill, contact the club and your municipality’s food control authority.

For hunting clubs

How much does lihaa.fi cost a hunting club?

lihaa.fi costs a club €59 + VAT per year, which is €74.04 including 25.5% VAT. The price includes every feature, and the service charges no commission on sales.

Price for clubs
Annual fee€59 + VAT (€74.04 incl. VAT)
Service period12 months, renews period by period
Billinginvoice in advance, 14 days to pay
Commissionnone: buyers pay the club directly
Cancellationeffective at the end of the paid period

Launch offer: when a club joins by 31 October 2026, the first invoice covers 24 months, that is 2 periods for the price of one year.

The invoice for the next period is sent about 30 days before the current one ends. Full terms are in the service agreement (in Finnish).

What does a club need to start selling game meat?

A club needs a food premises notification for its slaughter shed. It is submitted to the municipality’s food control authority at least four weeks before sales start and stays valid indefinitely. The club also writes an own-check plan.

Sales can start once four weeks have passed since the notification; there is no need to wait for an inspection visit. Step-by-step guides are on the guides page (in Finnish).

How does a club join lihaa.fi?

The club joins itself on the sign-up page (in Finnish). It needs the club’s basic details and the details of its food premises notification. The terms are accepted by a person with signing authority or authorised by the club.

The shop opens as soon as the club’s details have been checked. The club gets its own shop address in the form lihaa.fi/club-name/, and the invoice for the annual fee is sent by email.

What features does a club’s shop have?

The shop and its admin view include everything needed to sell game meat:

  • an online shop where the same pack cannot be reserved twice
  • numbered packs for easy pickup
  • ready-made cuts and the club’s own price list per kg: the price is calculated from the weight automatically
  • pack labels with the club’s logo for A4 label sheets or DYMO and Brother label printers
  • a pickup list and pickup and payment markings
  • a sales report for bookkeeping and sales volumes by species and sales channel for food control
  • payments straight to the club’s MobilePay number
  • visibility in the lihaa.fi search, map and town pages

The service runs in a browser and on a phone, with nothing to install and no server of your own.

Can several club members sell in the same shop?

Yes. When joining, the club sets two passwords: an administrator password and a seller password. With the seller password, club members can add products, view bookings, print labels and mark pickups and payments. The administrator also manages the club’s details, images, passwords and subscription.

How much game meat may a hunting club sell?

A club may sell small quantities directly to consumers. To local retail, meaning shops, restaurants, caterers and professional kitchens, a club may supply at most the following quantities per year per food premises notification. For game meat, “local” means the whole of Finland.

Maximum yearly quantities for local retail
GameAt most
Moose10 animals
White-tailed deer150 animals
Other deer30 animals
Roe deer100 animals
Hare or rabbit1,000 animals
Birds3,000 birds

The limits apply per notification, not per slaughter shed. Source: Riistan lihan myynnin opas (Guide to selling game meat, in Finnish), updated 29 September 2023.

How are pack labels printed?

Pack labels are printed straight from the club’s admin view, either on ordinary A4 label sheets or on DYMO and Brother label printers. The label carries the details the Guide to selling game meat requires: species, product name, weight, use-by period, storage instructions, freezing date and the seller’s contact details. It also shows the pack number and, if the club wants, the price and the club’s logo.

Is it worth selling game meat in small packs?

Yes, if the goal is a better return. When meat is cut and sold pack by pack, each cut gets its own price and the valuable cuts their proper value. When a whole carcass is sold, the buyer pays the same price per kg for the less valuable parts too.

Karhunkämmenen erä ry sold a whole moose in small packs through lihaa.fi. The whole moose was reserved in less than 24 hours, and the return was considerably better than when selling in larger lots. Read the club’s story (in Finnish).

Can we try lihaa.fi before joining?

Yes. In the demo shop you can try both the buyer’s and the club’s view: adding products, reserving, pickup markings and reports. The demo shop resets every night.

Who is responsible for the legality of the sales and the quality of the meat?

The selling club is responsible for its sales being lawful and for the quality, safety, storage, cold chain and traceability of the meat. lihaa.fi is a technical intermediary: it provides the shop, the admin view and the reports, but does not buy, sell, handle or inspect meat.
